There are 17Â Interstate Highwaysâ"7Â primary and 10Â auxiliaryâ"that exist entirely or partially in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of December 31, 2013, the state had a total of 1,296 miles (2,086Â km) of interstate routes and 70 miles (110Â km) of interstate business routes, all maintained by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT).
