History

Kingwood High School opened in the fall of 1979 under Principal Andy Wells. Since then, the school has undergone numerous additions and renovations, including a three-year project completed December 2008. Prior to fall 2007, 9th graders attended an adjacent campus at 4015 Woodland Hills Drive. This campus which was renovated is now called Kingwood Park High School and is its own independent high school.

Student life

In 1999 Dewan wrote that the school was "the type of place where if you make the first cut for the softball team, the coach might give you a locker and instructions to change who your friends are and how you dress before the second cut."
